The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is seeking applicants for its new paid internship program, which is open to students seeking two-year and bachelor degrees.

Two interns will be selected to serve from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. Applications, including a cover letter and resume, are due by Feb. 1.

Applications should be emailed to Cara Soukup, MCGA field coordinator, at csoukup@mncorn.org, or mailed to 738 1st Ave. East, Shakopee, MN, 55379.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for any student seeking to pursue a career in the agricultural sector,” said Noah Hultgren, MCGA president and a farmer in Raymond, Minn. “Our interns will be working hands-on to address the many issues corn farmers face every day. Rest assured, this internship will not be about filing papers or re-filling the coffee machine. We’re seeking applicants who will truly strengthen MCGA as an organization.”

After selection, interns will undergo training in April and work 40 hours per week from May – August (including some nights and weekends). From September to March 31, interns will work approximately 10-15 hours per week. Interns will be based out of MCGA’s office in Shakopee, but will also work at events and functions throughout the state.

Compensation is $12 per hour with work mileage and related expenses reimbursed.

Qualifications and preferred skills for applicants include:

  • Assist with planning, set-up and tear-down of MCGA events
  • Assist with communications projects, including ad design, radio scripts, writing, social media and database building
  • Identify and help address local issues related to agriculture
  • Special projects related to biofuels, policy and farmer-funded research
