One of this year’s William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture scholarship winners is Katie Peterson, a Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) student Agvocate majoring in political science at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Peterson, a sophomore who grew up on a family farm in Grove City, Minn., was honored last week at Commodity Classic in New Orleans.

The scholarship was created to foster promising agricultural leaders for the future and is co-sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association and BASF. It was awarded to five students pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Peterson hopes to earn her political science degree and work in the agriculture or food policy sector.

“NCGA is pleased to partner with BASF to offer this scholarship opportunity to another crop of outstanding students,” said NCGA President Chip Bowling. “Our legacy depends on encouraging the next generation to embark on careers in agriculture.”

From everyone at MCGA: Congratulations, Katie! Thank you for everything you do for Minnesota’s corn farmers as a student Agvocate, and best of luck as you continue to develop your agricultural leadership skills while pursuing a career in agriculture.
