A University of Minnesota student will have an opportunity to further develop her agriculture leadership skills by serving as an intern with the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA). The MCGA Internship Program is in its second year.

Over the next year, Mariah Larson will work on behalf of Minnesota’s corn farmers and gain exposure to Minnesota agriculture through office operations, educational and outreach programs, communications, and member engagement.

Look for Larson at MCGA-sponsored events this summer like Farmfest, MCGA Day with the St. Paul Saints, and A-maize-ing Corn Day at the Minnesota State Fair. She will also receive hands-on experience working on initiatives such as MCGA’s Innovation Grant program, and standing up and speaking out for corn farming and homegrown biofuels.

Mariah Larson grew up on a diversified crop and livestock farm near Medford, Minn. Larson’s on-farm experience and previous positions with Monsanto and at the CHS Miracle of Birth Center have fueled her desire to pursue a career in Minnesota agriculture commodities. Larson is currently a junior at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities majoring in Agricultural Communications and Marketing with minors in Political Science and International Agriculture.

“Through my involvement with our family farm and in ag-based leadership groups, I’ve been able to gain knowledge about a wide variety of farming topics, including commodity markets in Minnesota,” Larson said. “This internship is a wonderful opportunity for me to continue working toward my career goals and to learn more about different commodity associations.”
