Meet Heidie Sloot, MCGA’s new district field manager

My name is Heidie Sloot, and I am excited to share that I have recently come on board as a District Field Manager for the Minnesota Corn Growers Association. I will cover Territory 2 and serve growers in a 13-county area in west central Minnesota.

My background is rooted very much in the agricultural community, and I am thrilled to be continuing in it through such meaningful work with Minnesota corn growers. My parents continue to operate the hog and crop farm I grew up on in Sibley County, and I have been heavily involved in organizations like 4-H and FFA.

My experiences as a State FFA Officer gave me the opportunity to connect with farmers and agricultural businesses across the state, as well as deepen my understanding of the issues we face in the ag sector. I look forward to using this experience to involve more individuals in corn leadership and advocacy, as well as identify and engage them in the issues that are critical to corn growers.

I graduated in May from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities with a degree in agricultural education. During my time as a student, I worked for the Minnesota Grown Program in the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Division. The Minnesota Grown Program is a 30-year statewide partnership between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Minnesota producers of specialty crops and livestock. The program works to provide farmers with marketing tools and promotional resources, as well as produce an annual directory connecting farmers with consumers statewide. This helps producers differentiate their products from those grown thousands of miles away.

I am looking forward to bringing my experiences and expertise in education and membership activities to MCGA. As a district field manager I will further assist efforts in check-off education awareness, membership activities, local organizational support and grassroots efforts and programming in my counties.

I feel especially fortunate to be in a position where I am able to get out in the field and meet with growers one-on-one, and I look forward to learning from resident experts in farming from all across our state. I am delighted to be working with MCGA and putting my passion for agriculture into practice on behalf of an organization with a commitment to identifying and promoting opportunities for corn farmers, while enhancing their quality of life.

I am eager to meet each of you and look forward to doing so at a county meeting or event near you. In the meantime, I encourage you to reach out to me if I can be of any service at
