Hello! My name is Kenzie Barth, and I’m the 2018-2019 Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) student intern. I just finished my sophomore year at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, double majoring in plant science and agricultural communication & marketing. I’m from Upsala in Morrison County. On campus, I’m serving as the 2018-2019 CFANS Student Senator, and I’m involved with the Beta of Clovia sorority and the Gopher Crops and Soils Club.

I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I grew up surrounded by agriculture. My grandparents have a crop farm just a mile from my house, and I was fortunate to work on two dairy farms and take plant science classes in high school. I was also heavily involved in FFA, which helped me learn more about agriculture and gain communication skills.

When I applied for the internship, I was impressed by the variety of opportunities that MCGA presented their interns so that I could learn about what we do to advocate for agriculture and for farmers. I’m also excited to attend events like Farmfrest, Farm Camp, A-maize-ing Corn Day at the Minnesota State Fair, and other outreach events with MCGA.

After a week, I already feel like I’ve learned so much and there’s still so much left for me to learn! I’ve especially enjoyed getting to know every person on staff and learning about what they do to advocate for Minnesota’s corn farmers. I’ve learned about research sponsored by MCGA, renewable fuels, and communication strategies in practice here. Throughout the next year, I’ll keep learning so that I can be an effective advocate for corn growers in Minnesota.

Once again, I’m so excited to be on board at the Minnesota Corn Growers Association! I’m looking forward to a year of opportunities to grow, learn, and better the lives of corn farmers in Minnesota!
