Senior Public Policy Director – Minnesota Corn Growers Association 

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, this senior-level individual will lead policy and strategy development for state and federal government affairs activities to advance and operationalize the goals of MCGA.

This individual is responsible for establishing relationships and managing engagement with individuals of state and federal government to promote reforms, support initiatives that represent the needs and interests of Minnesota farmers. Similarly, the Director will collaborate on a regular basis with peer, policy and advocacy organizations, and with farmers and contractors programs to understand their views, garner their insights on issues, and develop consensus on issues and alliances for change. MCGA has a small team and this individual will have responsibilities for leadership on policy and collective action on legislative reform initiatives. In summary, by partnering with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Public Policy Director will implement strategy with government entities and stakeholder collaborators to achieve successful outcomes, and operationalize the key goals and strategic objectives of MCGA.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

Serve as staff lead to Government Relations Committee in developing and implementing policy for MCGA/MCRPC based on MCGA’s strategic plan. Coordinate with contractors involved with state and federal government affairs activities. (50%)

Communicate and advocate for MCGA policy priorities and activities. Provide direct lobbying as needed. (20%)

Provide regular policy updates to the Committee, staff, Board/Council, and members as necessary in coordination with communications staff. (15%)

Monitor and analyze federal/state legislative and regulatory activity. (15%)

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERINCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required in related field; such as law, public policy, life sciences, and regulated industries. (Master’s highly desired)
  • 5+ years progressive experience analyzing policy proposal, legislation, and/or federal regulation and conveying findings to clients and the public.
