Minnesota Corn Growers to EPA: Don’t mess with the RFS

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is urging corn farmers, anyone who drives a car, anyone who wants to breathe cleaner air, renewable energy supporters and others to speak out against a proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to slash the amount of homegrown ethanol blended in our fuel supply.

If EPA gets its way, ethanol blending targets set by Congress in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) will be reduced by nearly 9 billion gallons over the next two years.

RFS comment period opens
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting comments on its proposal to slash the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and reduce the amount of homegrown ethanol blended in our fuel supply by 4 billion gallons in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Ethanol-powered driver ready for MCGA's Tasseldega Nights at Elko Speedway

When Joe Garofalo zooms around the track during Tasseldega Nights this Saturday at Elko Speedway, his car will be powered by a combination of E85 and racing fuel.

Garofalo has been racing since the mid-90s and remembers being involved with racing ever since he was a kid.

“Once you start with racing, you’re never done with racing,” Garofalo says.

Minnesota Corn Growers Association President: Don’t mess with the RFS

On Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed slashing the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and reducing the amount of homegrown ethanol blended into our fuel supply by almost 4 billion gallons from 2014-16. The cuts amount to the loss of nearly a billion and a half bushels in corn demand compared to original RFS targets.
