NCGA President Skunes reflects on year of highs and lows

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association and Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council welcomed National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) President Kevin Skunes to its joint board meeting last week. For Skunes, it was an opportunity to recap what was a tumultuous year for NCGA as it worked to overcome federal issues impacting the nation’s corn farmers.

Skunes, who farms in Arthur, N.D., said when his one-year term started last October he envisioned the farm bill would occupy the majority of his efforts.

American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) presented its Grassroots Award this year to Dale Tolifson, a long-time Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) grower leader and founding member of Chippewa Valley Ethanol Cooperative (CVEC). MCGA states concern with proposed RVO in submitted comments

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association joined the National Corn Growers Association and other state organizations around the country in submitting comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) addressing concerns with the 2019 Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

Corn Congress brings growers to nation’s capital to advocate for top priorities

RFA partners with American Chopper to produce E85-fueled motorcycle

Trump RFS decision a relief for farmers, but negotiations are far from over

After weeks of rumors and speculation, the Trump administration announced last week it would not move forward with changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard that would attach Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) to biofuel exports. Corn’s pivotal role in supporting rural Minnesota

The “MN Corn Grows MN” campaign was launched to share information with all Minnesotans about the impact of corn farming on the overall growth of the state. In Greater Minnesota, that impact can be seen in the vital role corn farming plays in supporting rural communities.

Exports of Minnesota-grown corn produced more than $400 million in gross regional product for the state in 2017, with corn crop value totaling more than $4.5 billion.

Ethanol Summit of the Asia Pacific arrives in Minneapolis

Minnesota ethanol sales set records in 2017

The Minnesota Department of Commerce released its year-end station report outlining ethanol-blended fuel sales for 2017. The numbers detail the building momentum behind ethanol-blended fuels in Minnesota.

First, 2017 was a banner year for E15, which totaled more than 19 million gallons in sales. Compare that volume to 2016 when 5.7 million gallons were sold, and it is more than a 230-percent increase year-over-year. More than 4.6 million gallons were sold in December 2017 alone.

MCGA discusses biofuels during Small Grains Update

The annual Small Grains Update was held last week in northern Minnesota, as representatives from commodity groups and researchers came together to discuss the topics of most interest to farmers in the region. Mitch Coulter, commodity marketing and biofuels director for the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA), joined the group on the series, which began in Morris and ended in St. Hilaire.

Approximately five years ago, Minnesota Wheat Executive Director David Torgerson began working with MCGA and the Minnesota Soybeans Growers Association (MSGA) to develop a series of educational meetings that provide an efficient route for farmers to learn about the latest research and updates from the state’s ag sector.
