Minnesota Corn Growers highlight 2015 activities at the county level

From scholarships to flex-fuel promotions and billboards to field days – the Minnesota Corn Growers Association’s (MCGA) county affiliates had a big year in 2015. MCGA’s state office in Shakopee works closely with 52 local county affiliates to promote corn farming, homegrown ethanol and other agriculture-related activities in communities throughout Minnesota.

Commodity Classic draws largest crowd ever down to the Big Easy

MCGA student Agvocate selected to receive national agriculture scholarship

One of this year’s William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture scholarship winners is Katie Peterson, a Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) student Agvocate majoring in political science at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Peterson, a sophomore who grew up on a family farm in Grove City, Minn., was honored last week at Commodity Classic in New Orleans.

The scholarship was created to foster promising agricultural leaders for the future and is co-sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association and BASF.

Governor’s Water Summit: Can state’s water challenges be made into economic opportunities?

The ballroom at the Intercontinental Hotel in St. Paul filled to overflowing on Saturday with an estimated 800 stakeholders all gathered to draw up the outlines of an action plan for restoring and protecting Minnesota’s waters.

Polk County family farmer elected to Corn Growers board of directors

John Swanson, a family farmer from Mentor, Minn., was recently elected to serve on the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) board of directors. Swanson will serve a three-year term and represent District 6.

“I think it’s really important that agriculture shares its story with non-farmers,” Swanson said. “By serving on the MCGA board, I hope to strengthen the connection between farmers and non-farmers. I also look forward to working to open new markets for corn farmers and increase the use of homegrown ethanol fuel.”

Swanson has farmed since 1971,

Minnesota Corn Growers re-elect 4 farmers to board of directors

Delegates to the Minnesota Corn Growers Association’s (MCGA) recent annual meeting at MN Ag EXPO 2016 in Mankato re-elected four family farmers to its board of directors.

Bruce Peterson, Northfield, was re-elected to represent District 3. Tom Haag, Eden Valley; Ryan Buck, Goodhue, and Gerald Mulder, Renville, were elected to at-large positions. Peterson, Haag and Buck have previously served as MCGA president.
