Al-Corn celebrates 20 years of operation

by Jonathan Eisenthal

The Claremont Minnesota ethanol plant, Al-Corn Clean Fuel, celebrated its 20th anniversary this August. Al-Corn makes a million gallons of ethanol, 2.5 tons of distillers grains animal feed, and 170,000 pounds of corn oil every week. In the first quarter of this year, it processed 4.4 million bushels of corn and the plant had close to zero downtime.

Never stop speaking out: Here's our letter to the EPA on the the Renewable Fuel Standard

Ethanol fatigue is a real thing.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to try and tear apart the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), leaving exasperated corn farmers and supporters of clean, renewable, homegrown ethanol banging their heads against their desks and saying, “We gotta fight this battle all over again?”

Unfortunately, yes, we have to fight that battle all over again.

Here at the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA),

Corn farmers: Time to make your voices heard on ethanol, atrazine and trade

Written by Anna Boroff, MCGA Senior Public Policy Director

Bad news: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is once again attempting to slash the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and cut the amount of corn ethanol blended in our fuel supply. The EPA is also using faulty science in a risk assessment for atrazine, which could curb the availability and use of the effective herbicide. Finally, Congress has yet to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP),

Minnesota corn farmers stand up and speak out at RFS hearing

No distance is too far to travel to speak out in favor of clean, renewable and homegrown ethanol.

Once again, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking to cut the amount of conventional corn ethanol blended in our fuel supply below what Congress called for in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

The proposed cuts are a major blow to drivers, corn farmers and anyone who enjoys breathing cleaner air.

Reaction to EPA's 2017 RFS proposal

On Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposed rule to set Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for 2017. EPA proposed a total renewable fuel volume of 18.8 billion gallons, including 14.8 billion for corn ethanol.

The numbers are an increase from 2016 RVO levels, but still fall short of the numbers set by Congress in the RFS, which is legislation that sets annual targets for the amount of cleaner-burning biofuels like corn ethanol blended into our fuel supply.

Our View: The small engine industry needs to change with the times

The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), which represents the small engine industry, just released their annual survey results concerning consumer knowledge of small engine fuel options. Based upon the results of the survey, corn farmers and small engine manufacturers can agree that consumers need and deserve more information about today’s fuel options. We know from our own consumer research that consumers are hungry for information about the positive effects of ethanol blended fuels.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated everyone on the happenings in the world of clean, renewable and homegrown ethanol. So, we’ll forgo the chit-chat and get right into the update.

Reform instead of repeal?
It looks like “Big Oil” is shifting it’s strategy from trying to repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) to reforming it. However, part of those “reforms” include repealing the corn ethanol portion of the RFS.
