MCGA intern Nicole Krumrie with Maizey and T.C. Bear

Internship provides valuable experience, opportunities for growth

Written by Nicole Krumrie

This past summer, and continuing into March, I have had the opportunity to intern with the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) in Shakopee, MN. This internship allowed me to grow and challenge myself in many ways that I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.

After studying Biochemistry at Biola University in California, Carlson took a job as a crop consultant in Nebraska. Then, while working in agronomy, she wanted to learn more.

“I called up Dr. Don Wyse at the University of Minnesota to learn about programs.

Written by Zach Fore

Part of the appeal of corn farming is the independence it offers. You are your own boss, using a combination of science, skill, gut feeling and a little bit of luck to grow a crop every year and (hopefully) turn a profit.

But corn farmers can’t do it all on their own. Finding the right partners is key to helping corn farmers improve their own operations,

Taking the kura (clover) cure

Written by Jonathan Eisenthal

It seems odd to say that after 10 years, they are still at the early stages of research into kura clover. Used as a perennial cover crop, it offers a promising addition to corn and soybean production systems, but there are still a lot of questions to ask.

Here at the largest of the University of Minnesota Extension Service Outreach and Research Center (4,000 acres-plus),
