Reading Time: 2 minutes

All drivers running on E15 – a blend of 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline – or higher are eligible to compete for the 2015 Ethanol Cup. At Deer Creek Speedway, qualifying is already underway and will culminate in the “Dash for the Ethanol Cup” from Aug. 8-29.

The 2015 Ethanol Cup is sponsored and supported by Minnesota’s corn farmers. The final qualifying race for the “Dash to the Ethanol Cup” at Deer Creek is July 11 during “Tasseldega Nights,” a special promotion from the Minnesota Corn Growers Association where all Deer Creek race fans receive free admission.

During regular points races at Deer Creek last season, ethanol-powered cars won 15 times. Ethanol-powered cars also finished in the top five 59 times and top ten 89 times. A total of 19 drivers ran on higher ethanol blends like E15 last season.

“The Ethanol Cup is a great way to reach race fans with a positive message about ethanol,” said Chad Willis, a corn farmer in Willmar and director on the Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council. “We were thrilled with the Ethanol Cup’s success last year and we’re looking forward to following all the action again this summer.

“Tasseldega Nights” is set for June 6 at Elko Speedway. E85 – a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline – is now an authorized alternative fuel for all divisions at Elko Speedway.
