MNcorn_PMSThe Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) was part of a broad coalition that brought E15 to Minnesota in the fall of 2013. Since that time, MCGA and its partners have continued their efforts to grow the availability and use of E15 and other higher ethanol blends through the installation of flex-fuel pumps and Minnesota fueling stations.

  • There are currently 28 stations that have used MCGA funds to begin dispensing E15 and other higher blends. Most are located in the densely populated Twin Cities metro area.
  • By the fall of 2015, MCGA anticipates more than 40 stations will be dispensing E15 and other higher blends.
  • Of the 28 stations currently offering E15, 18 also offer E85 and E30 for flex-fuel vehicles. Six offer E85 and E15, four offer E15 and E30.
  • MCGA funds have helped install 120 flex-fuel/E15 pumps.

Retailers who have partnered with MCGA to dispense E15 are also seeing great results. Ethanol blends above the standard 10 percent of regular unleaded account for 20-50 percent of sales at many locations. In addition to funding assistance, retailers also receive ongoing technical supports, staff training and marketing assistance.

Organizations who have partnered with MCGA on this effort include the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Prime the Pump, the American Lung Association in Minnesota, the Minnesota Biofuels Association and Growth Energy.

What is E15, E30 or E85?
E15 is a blend of 15 percent clean, renewable, homegrown ethanol and 85 percent gasoline. It’s approved for use in vehicles made in 2001 or after.

E30 is 30 percent ethanol, 70 percent gasoline for use in flex-fuel vehicles. E85 is 85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline for use in flex-fuel vehicles.
