Hey Gophers football fans (and anybody who likes food and fun): There’s a very special event called “Celebrate Ag & Food Day” going on during the Gophers football game versus Kent State this coming Saturday.

In the tailgating lots outside of TCF Bank Stadium, on the giant video screens inside the stadium and on the field during breaks in the action, the Gophers and the University of Minnesota will be recognizing Minnesota’s farmers and the many agriculture-based businesses that help put food on our tables and grow the Minnesota economy.

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) will be well-represented throughout the day:

  • The U of M’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Science will be scooping FREE! sweet corn ice cream at a pregame tailgate event outside of Mariucci Arena.
  • Ted Tassel, MCGA’s world-famous mascot and the greenest Gophers football fan in Minnesota, will be roaming the pregame festivities to take selfies and dole out high-fives.
  • The MCGA Homegrown Farm Family of the Game will be honored for their conservation efforts in front of more than 50,000 fans during the game (check back tomorrow for a full profile of this week’s featured family).
  • Videos, trivia, announcer reads and banners throughout the stadium covering all things food and farming in Minnesota will be prominently displayed.

“Celebrate Ag & Food Day” is a great way for MCGA and Minnesota farmers to connect with non-farmers in the Twin Cities metro area. It’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s an ideal setting to showcase what Minnesota agriculture is all about

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Go Gophers!
