FamFest 2016The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) will once again have a strong presence at Farmfest 2016, which will be held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Gillfillan Estate, near Morgan.

Visitors can stop by the MCGA tent on the corner of Seed Road and Seventh Street to renew their association membership (or become a new member), learn more about MCGA’s 2016 Innovation Grant recipients, ask questions about the MCGA-sponsored Nitrogen Smart program, and find out about new developments in ethanol infrastructure in Minnesota.

MCGA will also be introducing “Kernel Nation,” a concept designed to encourage anyone – farmers and non-farmers alike – to join in a community of people who support corn farmers and corn farming in Minnesota. And, of course there will be an opportunity to sample sweet corn ice cream, a delicacy provided by the University of Minnesota Dairy Store, along with cookies made with Distillers’ Dried Grains (DDGS), which highlight MCGA research currently being conducted at South Dakota State University on food-grade DDGS.

Tuesday is “Ag Innovator’s Day, sponsored in part by MCGA. Tuesday afternoon, the top five teams from the 4-H Science of Ag Response Challenge (SOAR) will be showcased in the Forum Tent. Prior to the SOAR event, MCGA will sponsor a free sweet corn feed, also in the Forum Tent.

Congressional Candidate’s Forums will be held both Tuesday and Wednesday, and, Wednesday afternoon will feature an Ag Water Quality Forum, with participation by state MCGA board member Kirby Hettver. As in past years, Thursday will bring the presentation of the Minnesota Farm Families of the Year.
