Gubernatorial candidate Johnson visits family corn farm in Cannon Falls

Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson visited the Cannon Falls farm of Minnesota Corn Growers Association director Les Anderson on Saturday. The visit was the latest in the “MN Corn Grows MN” initiative, which was launched to raise awareness of the importance of corn farming with candidates for elected office.

Saturday morning was a great opportunity to speak one-on-one with Johnson, who is currently a commissioner in Hennepin County. The dialogue between Anderson and Johnson focused on the issues impacting corn growers in the state and the opportunities ahead.
One opportunity Johnson was particularly interested in was the fast rise of ethanol-blended fuels in in Minnesota, including sales of 88 Octane, also known as E15, doubling year over year with nearly 350 retailers now offering the fuel. Other topics of conversation included the Buffer Property Tax Credit and the rising cost of healthcare for farmers.
Since last fall, MCGA has had 11 gubernatorial candidates on Minnesota family corn farms throughout the state. Candidates to represent Minnesota’s First Congressional District and for the U.S. Senate have also visited a family corn farm through the MN Corn Grows MN initiative.
