Hundreds gathered in Mankato last week for MN Ag EXPO, an annual opportunity for Minnesota farmers to come together and learn the latest from our state’s ag sector.
For the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA), it was the setting for the unveiling of the Better Fuel Initiative, a multi-faceted effort promoting state policy, research, awareness and infrastructure for biofuels. The initiative in the year ahead will highlight the advantages of cleaner-burning, higher-octane ethanol blends to meet environmental goals.
On the first day of EXPO, Gov. Tim Walz addressed the crowd, outlining his policy priorities for the state’s ag sector and rural communities. Following his time on stage, Gov. Walz walked the show floor, including stopping at the MCGA booth to discuss the Better Fuel Initiative.
“It’s so nice to feel that we are working together with the governor and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, all pulling together to help farmers,” said MCGA President Les Anderson.
The 2nd Annual Minnesota Corn County Reception took place later that afternoon. In addition to a live and silent auction, the event also provided a stage to honor the tremendous work of the state’s 52 county corn organizations.
During the evening reception, MCGA sponsored a biofuels panel featuring Renewable Fuels Association President Geoff Cooper, AgriTalk’s Davis Michaelson and Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen. The panel highlighted efforts in creating a bright future for ethanol-blended fuels on the local and national level.
On the second day of MN Ag EXPO, the MCGA resolutions session took place prior to the annual meeting, and was once again a great example of grassroots in action as farmers discussed policy priorities moving forward.
The MCGA annual meeting included updates from MCGA President Les Anderson, Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council Chair Scott Winslow, and MCGA Executive Director Adam Birr.
The meeting was also an opportunity to honor Connie and Gerald Mulder with MCGA’s Golden Kernel award for their work to advance the mission of MCGA. MDA Commissioner Petersen received the Friend of Agriculture award for his longtime advocacy on behalf of the state’s corn farmers.
Thank you to all who were able to join MCGA at MN Ag EXPO 2020. We hope you had a wonderful time!
