CommonGround hosts virtual evening of cooking and conversation

(Chef Tracy and CommonGround volunteers hosted more than 50 attendees during the virtual cooking event.)
In partnership with Cooks of Crocus Hill in Minneapolis, CommonGround volunteers and foodies from across the country took part in a virtual cooking class last week. During the event, titled “Mom Meals: Cooking and Conversation with Farmers,” a professional chef from Cooks of Crocus Hill walked attendees through a three course, kid-friendly meal.
As each course was prepared, CommonGround volunteers from Minnesota and other areas of the U.S. shared their experiences growing and raising the ingredients in the featured recipes, and answered questions about their farms and modern agriculture.
Food influencers and consumer moms took part in the 90-minute course from the comfort of their own kitchens. Topics discussed over the course of the evening included GMOs, animal welfare, pesticide use, antibiotic use, food prices and technology in agriculture.
This virtual class is just one of the ways CommonGround programming is continuing to connect with consumers while in-person events are limited due to COVID-19. With fewer consumers having a connection to the farm, CommonGround outreach efforts provide valuable opportunities to have conversations about food and farming, and to make connections and further build trust in agriculture with consumers. CommonGround is a volunteer program for women in agriculture who are interested in connecting with consumers about food and farming-related topics.
