Minnesota’s corn organizations have been recognized for their contributions to agriculture research, education and outreach efforts through University of Minnesota Extension.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council were honored with the Distinguished Friend of Extension Award. The award was presented by Extension Dean Bev Durgan during Extension’s annual conference, which took place virtually this year.

Working in close partnership with MCGA, MCR&PC has invested more than $1 million this year in Extension research, 4-H agricultural programs and more. Additionally, Minnesota Corn’s leadership and members give their time as volunteers in Extension’s 4-H, agriculture, environmental and community leadership programs.

“Minnesota Corn is humbled to receive this award and is proud of our longtime partnership with University of Minnesota Extension,” CEO and Executive Director Adam Birr said. “We’re honored to support University of Minnesota Extension’s farmer-focused research projects, innovative Nitrogen Smart educational program and 4-H Agronomy Program, among other initiatives. We appreciate University of Minnesota Extension’s deep commitment to agriculture in our state and look forward to continuing our partnership well into the future.”

MCGA President Bryan Biegler said Minnesota’s corn farmers are grateful to Extension for its commitment to building partnerships, preparing young people to lead and strengthening Minnesota’s food and agriculture systems.

“University of Minnesota Extension is an invaluable partner in promoting agricultural opportunities across the state,” MCR&PC Chair Brandon Fast said. “We appreciate their focus on all aspects of agriculture, from educating young people to improving crop yields and implementing conservation practices, and are eager to help them continue this work.”
