The application for Minnesota Corn’s $5,000 college scholarship — available exclusively to Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) members pursuing careers and degrees in agriculture — has opened for the 2023-24 school year.

Now through Jan. 6, applicants can apply through Minnesota Corn’s online application portal. Minnesota Corn will provide scholarships to up to four students. Scholarship decisions will be announced on or before March 1.

To promote opportunities for future agriculture leaders, Minnesota Corn offers the $5,000 scholarships to college students pursuing degrees and careers in agriculture.

The scholarship is funded by Minnesota corn farmers through the Minnesota corn check-off. Since 2019, corn farmers have funded $50,000 in scholarships for 10 students.

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be enrolled as a full-time college or graduate student in fall 2023 and be pursuing a degree or career in an agriculture-related field.

Applicants must be MCGA members. Students can join through MCGA’s Young Adult Membership Program. Available to people ages 16-24, the Young Adult Membership Program offers students the full benefits of an MCGA membership for less than one-third of the price. Typically, an MCGA membership costs $75 annually, but it is just $20 annually for young adult members.

The MCGA scholarship is just one of several scholarships offered to promising agriculture students by corn organizations. Many county corn grower associations in Minnesota also offer their own scholarships.

Additionally, the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) has three scholarship offerings: a $1,000 scholarship for students pursuing a degree at a technical school or community college; a $1,500 scholarship for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in any field; and a $2,500 scholarship for graduate students whose area of study will benefit the corn sector.
