A Minnesota Corn-sponsored farmer conference focused on soil productivity and health is accepting registrations.

The Soil Management Summit is hosted by University of Minnesota Extension. It will be held Dec. 15-16 at the Park Event Center in Waite Park.

The event provides farmers an opportunity to learn more about implementing no-till, reduced tillage, cover crops, and other soil-health practices.

Attendees will hear from researchers, agricultural advisors, and farmers who are experienced with these practices. In addition to formal presentations, the conference will feature a farmer panel and “table talks” — informal opportunities to talk with farmers and Extension specialists.

Sessions will cover carbon markets, low-disturbance manure techniques, the economics of cover crops, planter settings in reduced tillage systems, and much more. There will also be demonstrations and a keynote address from Successful Farming Editor-in-Chief Gil Gullickson on agriculture and soil health through a journalist’s eyes.

The goal of the conference is to make the information as user friendly and applicable as possible, organizers say.

Those who attend the entire conference will be offered certified crop adviser (CCA) continuing education units.

The early-bird registration rate for the conference is $160 with CCA credits and $125 for those not seeking credits. The price increases to $180 after Nov. 3.

There are two hotels connected to the Park Event Center — the Hilton Garden Inn St. Cloud and the Residence Inn St. Cloud. If you book a room before Nov. 14, you can receive a discounted rate. Use the group name “Soil Management Summit” when calling.
