EPA proposal: Biofuel is the answer today to lowering emissions

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposal today for vehicle emissions standards, which does not adequately account for the environmental benefits of currently available low-carbon ethanol blends. In response to the announcement, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association released the following statement:
The Minnesota Corn Growers Association encourages EPA to reconsider this proposed rule and to support biofuels as a realistic, affordable, and currently available solution to climate and air quality goals. “Electric vehicles are not the one-and-only answer to meeting emissions standards,” said Richard Syverson, president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association. “Ethanol blends are renewable, readily available, and affordable. EPA has tipped the scale in favor of one technology, instead of continuing to give consumers a choice to an immediate and renewable way to reduce carbon emissions today.”
