Exports add value to the Minnesota economy

Exports of corn, ethanol & coproducts added $4.73 billion in value to the Minnesota economy in 2023, according to a ComplEat Analytics study commissioned by the U.S. Grains Council and the National Corn Growers Association.
According to the analysis, exports of Minnesota corn were worth $1.6 billion, created over 11,500 jobs and $3.1 billion in economic output for the state. Minnesota’s ethanol and ethanol coproduct exports were worth over $533 million, created over 5,200 jobs and $1.6 billion in economic output.
Canada and Mexico are Minnesota’s largest export markets for corn, DDGS, and ethanol.
Canada and Mexico have long been the primary markets for Minnesota exports of corn and DDGS. Canada is the primary market for Minnesota ethanol exports, accounting for about 99% of all ethanol exports from the state. From 2015-2024, Minnesota corn, DDGS, & ethanol exports to Canada and Mexico totaled $3,300,763,612 and $1,179,271,563, respectively, or 82% of Minnesota exports of those products worldwide.
