MN county corn organizations wrap up a busy summer

It’s been another busy summer for Minnesota Corn’s 52 affiliated county corn grower associations. Read more below from our district field managers on what the county organizations have been up to this summer.
District 1—Northwest Minnesota
Northwest Minnesota’s county corn grower associations had a busy summer of exciting events and promotions! Most recently, county farmer-leaders participated in the Big Iron farm show in West Fargo, where they highlighted the value of the corn checkoff and signed up Minnesota farmers as MCGA members. In July, the Pennington/Red Lake County Corn and Soybean Growers hosted a “shade and free cold-water retreat” at the Pennington County Fair, offering a cool place for fairgoers to relax and learn about local corn and soybean farming. Over 90 attendees joined “Tillage Days” held by Douglas County Corn & Soybean association on August 19 to see the latest tillage equipment in action. From live demonstrations and a close look from side-by-side and tractor test drives to great conversations in the field, it was an evening full of learning and connections. Across District 1, county associations were represented in more than 20 parades throughout the summer showcasing local support for agriculture and their communities.
District 2—Central Minnesota
District 2 corn growers had a busy and successful summer filled with events that brought members and communities together. Meeker and Benton/Sherburne corn members were offered a chance to reconnect during their annual member appreciation events. Renville, Nicollet/Sibley, Todd, Meeker, and Wright/Hennepin all hosted fuel events in their counties, promoting the benefits of ethanol and offering discounts for consumers. The counties of Stearns, Renville, Benton/Sherburne and Nicollet/Sibley held golf events, all of which provided a day of networking and fun for members and sponsors. Education and outreach remained a priority during McLeod’s first ever Ag Safety Day, including tips on the best safety practices for the upcoming harvest season. Morrison/Crow Wing and Nicollet/Sibley held informative plot days where members were able to see their variety plots’ progress. Kandiyohi County held their annual meeting in August, and East Central will round out the summer events with holding their annual meeting on September 27. Thank you to all who participated in District 2’s summer activities and keep an eye out for our winter events!
District 3—Southeast Minnesota
The county corn grower associations in SE MN have been busy the last few weeks! Three counties hosted fuel promotion events, offering discounts on Unleaded 88 and E-85. The following four county associations hosted plot days: Olmsted/Wabasha, Faribault, Fillmore and Mower. Back in August four counties also hosted golf events to raise money for scholarships. Several counties have also been participating in local community events such as Farm Safety Days and town festivals. As we near the end of September, county boards in SE MN are wrapping up their final meetings before they head into harvest.
District 4—Southwest Minnesota
District 4 has had a busy summer with many different events and promotions that have taken place. From golf outings, parades, fuel events to fairs and annual meetings, the counties have spent many hours engaging with their members and non-members.
As they wrap up the summer and prepare for harvest shortly, we would like to wish them all a safe and bountiful harvest. Many of the counties in District 4 will hold an annual meeting this winter.
