More than $500,000 raised in “Let’s Kick Hunger” Day

The 12th Annual “Let’s Kick Hunger” Day was held on Thursday with the goal to raise money for Second Harvest Heartland and its mission to stock food shelves across Minnesota. The Minnesota Corn Growers Association, along with WCCO Radio and other Minnesota-based companies, partnered to break the fundraising record with more than $540,000 raised.
WCCO Radio hosted a radiothon through 7 p.m. encouraging people to donate, supporting Second Harvest Heartland as we face the greatest hunger surge since the Great Depression. One in eight Minnesotans, including one in five kids, are facing hunger today.
The food shortage impacts metro and Greater Minnesota communities alike, and Second Harvest Heartland food banks stretch to 59 counties throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. With $1 providing up to three meals, the one-day fundraising total will fund up to 1.62 million meals statewide.
