After pivoting to an online event in 2021, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) and the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) wrapped up another successful MN Ag EXPO last week.

Hundreds of farmers attended the two-day event at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato. They connected with their fellow growers, learned about the latest trends in agriculture and participated in MCGA’s and MSGA’s annual meetings. Additionally, they heard from a lineup of engaging speakers about ways they can stay resilient in the face of adversity and had opportunities to discuss check-off-funded research projects with farmers and scientists.

They also heard from Gov. Tim Walz, who touted the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program in a speech on the trade show floor.

At MCGA’s annual meeting, farmers Dana Allen-Tully, Jim Kanten, John Swanson and D.J. VanKlompenburg were re-elected to the MCGA Board of Directors. Additionally, delegates from MCGA’s 52 county organizations approved the 2022 resolutions book. MCGA’s grower-leaders also presented several awards to well-deserving ag champions. University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences Dean Dr. Brian Buhr received the 2022 Friend of Ag Award. Retired board and Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council member Mickey Peterson received the Golden Kernel Award, and past MCGA President Tim Waibel received the Gavel Plaque Award.

MCGA thanks all of the growers who participated in the annual meeting and its members more broadly for their work on behalf of the state’s corn farmers in 2021. We look forward to continuing efforts in 2022 to advance policies and research critical to ensuring the prosperity of corn farmers and rural communities.
