The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) today released an update on the state’s aim to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025. Today’s report covers GHG measurements from residential, electric, transportation, forestry and agriculture, and other sectors. Released every two years, the report summarizes GHG reductions for each sector.

Emissions from the forestry and agriculture sector remained flat over the last period. Since 2011, Minnesota corn farmers have invested over $2 million in greenhouse gas emission research. This includes investments in programs at the University of Minnesota that reduce the environmental impact of corn crops.

Recently, awareness has grown about practices that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These may not reflect the current models that rely on broad assumptions related to fertilizer use. Minnesota Corn is committed to working with MPCA to enhance the data to reflect modern agricultural practices.
