EPA has issued a proposed rule on Multi-Pollutant Emission Standards for most cars and trucks starting with model year 2027, effectively forcing automakers to produce electric vehicles at an increasingly rapid rate with no consideration of the impacts on American families.

Through this rule, EPA has an opportunity to level the playing field for all low-carbon fuels and technologies and use ethanol’s proven potential to support sustainability in the transportation sector. Clean, high-octane fuel from mid-level ethanol blends used in advanced engines offers an essential pathway toward significant greenhouse gas and criteria emission reductions from model year 2027 and later vehicles.

EPA’s proposal fails to remove barriers and open pathways for all clean transportation options. Instead EPA is proposing a one-size-fits-all electric only approach. If left unchanged, this rulemaking has the potential to remove hundreds of millions of bushels of domestic corn demand off the market per year due to lower ethanol consumption. EPA should consider all options to cut vehicle emissions, as clean, low-carbon ethanol is readily available now.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to lowering vehicle emissions. Join the call to action and ask EPA to set a standard that takes advantage of higher ethanol blends to enable automakers to deploy advanced engine technologies.
