U.S. Senator Tina Smith visited the farm of Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) director Les Anderson in Cannon Falls to discuss the issues impacting the state’s corn growers. The visit was the latest in the “MN Corn Grows MN” initiative, which was launched to bring candidates for elected office to family corn farms to raise awareness of the importance of corn farming in our state.

Smith joined Anderson for a combine ride Tuesday morning.

Anderson, joined by his wife Jeannie, brought Smith on a tour of their corn and soybean farm, including a ride in the combine. The group settled down in Anderson’s shop to discuss rising healthcare costs for farmers, the impact of recent tariffs and importance of trade, as well as the current state of the farm economy.

Since last fall, MCGA has had candidates for governor, U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives on Minnesota family corn farms throughout the state. Prior to the Nov. 6 midterm election, MCGA will continue efforts to bring candidates from both political parties to the farm for discussion on the issues and opportunities ahead for the state’s corn growers.
