Time is running out for Congress to pass a farm bill in 2018. With only a few joint legislative days left, farmers should call their congressional leaders and stress the need a for a new farm bill in 2018 to prevent major programs lapsing at the end of the year.

Through the end of the week, Minnesota’s corn growers are asked to join farmers nationwide in contacting their representatives and senators to stress the need for a new farm bill during times of economic uncertainty on the farm. Passing a farm bill in 2018 would provide some necessary safety and stability to farmers currently facing a number of financial headwinds.

Please contact the Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121 with the following message:

Hello. My name is [NAME]. I’m a constituent from [PLACE] and a corn farmer and I’m calling today to urge Congress to pass a new farm bill before adjourning for the year.

Times are really tough for agriculture – prices are low and a lot of trade uncertainty still exists. The farm bill would provide some certainty for us as we look to the next year.

So, please, work with your colleagues – the only way to really get this done is by being bipartisan – and pass a farm bill during the lame duck session.

Minnesota Corn Growers Association grower leaders have traveled to the nation’s capital and remained in conversation with Minnesota congressional leaders to stress the need for a strong safety net and necessary changes to the Conservation Reserve Program in a new farm bill. The importance of funding for the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development to grow export markets has also been a point of emphasis in ongoing discussions.
