The Wilkin SWCD Soil Health Demonstration Site will showcase a side-by-side field trial of how no-till, strip-till and conventional tillage works in our clay loam soil.
This study will evaluate the impact of variable rate irrigation (VRI) and variable rate N (VRN) management in comparison to conventional uniform rate irrigation (URI) and uniform rate N (URN) management.
This project will address the combined effects of fertilizer source and rate on nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon dynamics from multiple perspectives: corn grain production, soil nutrient availability, and water quality.
The study will use the common approach to calculate EONRs by establishing several nitrogen rates from zero to well above where a corn response is expected.
The research is designed to evaluate the performance of conservation practices to reduce nitrate-nitrogen (N) loads from corn-soybean agriculture at a small-watershed scale under real world conditions.
The Soil Health Partnership is a farmer-led initiative fostering transformation in agriculture through improved soil health, benefiting both farmer profitability and the environment. Established in 2014 by the National Corn Growers Association, the SHP built a network of working farms, including four in Minnesota, it tests, measures and shares results of advanced farm management practices that will enhance sustainability and farm economics.
The MAWRC is a research and education organization dedicated to increasing awareness of water-related issues within the agricultural community and enhancing communication and research efforts to help farmers address water-related issues.
The environmental impact of irrigated agriculture on ground and surface water resources in Minnesota is of major concern. Better irrigation scheduling has the potential in addressing these complex agricultural environmental challenges we face in Minnesota.
Over the last several years our regional atmospheric measurements and mesocosm experiments have revealed that reactive nitrogen losses associated with corn production are likely to increase as our climate continues to get warmer and wetter.
