Another great Farmfest in the books for the state’s corn growers

Another great Farmfest wrapped up last Thursday, and the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) tent was again a popular stop for the many attendees interested in learning more about the impact of the state’s corn growers.

Visitors to the tent learned about the many ways corn farmers and their families contribute to the economic well-being of the state through the “MN Corn Grows MN” initiative. Part of that story was highlighting Minnesota corn farmers’ continued investment in upgraded fuel infrastructure to bring higher blends of ethanol to market and increase overall corn demand.

Farmfest Livestream brings forums to viewers statewide

From gubernatorial candidates and senate hopefuls to the future of biofuels, the forums scheduled at Farmfest this year will be can’t-miss viewing for the state’s ag sector. For those unable to make the trip to Gilfillan Estate, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is proud to announce its partnership with IDEAg and Farmfest for the first-ever Farmfest Livestream of each panel discussion.

The Farmfest Livestream will make each forum held in the Wick Building viewable from home at Farmfest.com.

MCGA partners with WCCO to bring Farmfest Gubernatorial Candidate Forum to statewide audience

Candidates to be the next governor of Minnesota will make the trip to Gilfillian Estates on Wednesday, Aug. 8, for the Minnesota Gubernatorial Candidate Forum. Sponsored by the IDEAg Group, the forum is scheduled for 10:30-11:50 a.m. in the Wick Building on the Farmfest grounds and will be broadcast live by WCCO News Radio.

As the official broadcast partner of WCCO’s live coverage from Farmfest, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) looks forward to the opportunity to raise awareness about the issues impacting Minnesota agriculture.

Ag Policy Forum: National farm groups need young voices

It’s a time of decision for agriculture. That became clear at the National Ag Policy Forum at Farmfest last week as farmer leaders discussed the many issues requiring action sooner than later.

While crucial topics like trade, infrastructure and farm labor soon to be decided in congress will weigh heavy on production, the panel reached consensus on the need to grow participation of younger farmers in the grassroots efforts that are vital to the future of farming.

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) will have a little bit of everything at this year’s Farmfest, which runs Aug. 1-3 at Gillfillan Estate, near Morgan.

From conservation-minded research and policy updates to sweet corn ice cream and cookies made with Distillers’ Dried Grains (DDGS), there will be a lot of excitement at the MCGA tent located at the corner of Seed Road and Seventh Street.

MCGA wraps up another great year at Farmfest

Farmfest, the largest outdoor farm show in Minnesota, wrapped up its three-day 2016 show last Thursday. Once again there was a strong presence by the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA).

On Tuesday, MCGA sponsored “Ag Innovation Day,” which featured panel discussions, as well as a presentation by Minnesota 4-H student teams. These teams were some of the top finishers in 4-H’s Science of Agriculture challenge.

Nitrate sample testing offered by MAWRC a hit at Farmfest

With all the recent buzz about ag water quality, the Minnesota Agricultural Water Resource Center (MAWRC) offered free and confidential sample testing for nitrates at this year’s FarmFest, Aug. 5-7 near Redwood Falls.

“We tested samples of water that landowners brought from wells, drainage tile and ditches on their property,” said Tim Radatz, research specialist at MAWRC. “We got an excellent response to the service. People who were unaware that we were offering it stopped and talked to us anyway.
